Arizona-based Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery has called Minneapolis its “strongest untouched market in the United States” in a news release issued through Business Wire, and is looking for six franchisees to run its restaurants.
The chain said it is looking to “bust into the Midwest,” a not-so-subtle nod to its team of female serving staff, who wear plaid mini-kilts and matching bras. Its male bartenders also wear kilts.
The main attraction of Minneapolis and other Midwest cities, according to vice president of franchise development Mark Hanby, is its strong sporting tradition.
“With the combination of the Big 10 Conference and the many professional teams throughout the Midwest, there are a plethora of great sports towns in the region,” he said. “Tilted Kilt is prepared to become the best place to watch any team play while enjoying an incredible atmosphere and a cold beer.”
The Business Journal reports that recently, Minnesota has not proved a happy place for “male-targeted chains with lots of skin and sports,” noting that Hooters withdrew from downtown Minneapolis and Burnsville in 2010, though it still retains a restaurant at the Mall of America.
Tilted Kilt has more than 100 locations and is inspired by the tradition of old English, Scottish and Irish pubs. It’s menu is classic American, with a few British twists.
