Irish-themed pub coming to area

January 17, 2012

PRINCE GEORGE – Tri-Cities residents will be able to celebrate an Irish spring with the scheduled opening of the area’s first location for a Celtic-themed pub and sports bar chain.

The Tilted Kilt is expected to open in March or April in the former Uno Chicago Grill location opposite Lowe’s just off Puddledock Road near Temple Avenue, according to a release from Tilted Kilt Operating Franchise LLC.

The chain has more than 50 restaurants in 20 U.S. states and Canada, but no current locations in Virginia.

The restaurants’ menu features many popular standards as well as a selection of items that reflect its Irish- or Scots-style pub theme. Appetizers, for example, include the usual mozzarella sticks and potato skins but also feature “Irish Nachos” and “Drunken Clams.” Burgers, chicken wings, sandwiches and wraps are available, as well as pub fare such as fish and chips, “Olde Dublin Irish Stew” and shepherd’s pie.

Another likely draw for some diners is the waitstaff: young, attractive women clad in knee socks, plaid mini-kilts and “matching plaid bras under white camp shirts tantalizingly tied to show off the midriff,” according to the company’s website (http://tiltedkilt.com).

Also in keeping with the pub theme is the chain’s “Beer of the Month” as well as the restaurants’ decor and atmosphere.

Restaurateur Mark DiMartino opened the first Tilted Kilt in 2003 in the Rio Hotel in Las Vegas. By 2005, veteran restaurant developer Ronald C. Lynch joined the company to lead its national expansion through franchising. The Las Vegas location has closed, and the company now operates out of Tempe, Ariz., though technically its state of incorporation is Wyoming.

The local franchise is owned by Amir Patel, who previously was part of management for the Richmond-area Extreme Pizza and Great Wraps franchises.
