A national restaurant chain is hoping to enjoy some Irish luck on the boulevard.
Sports pub Tilted Kilt, known for its female servers dressed in hip-hugging skirts and revealing tops, will replace the recently shuttered Mermaid Tavern on Thousand Oaks Boulevard, a city administrator confirmed on Friday.
Mark Towne, the city’s deputy director of community development, told the Acorn that minor interior improvements are underway at the building at 1345 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. where the Tempe, Ariz.-based establishment is set to open.
Tilted Kilt can open without any approvals from the planning commission or City Council, Towne said, as the site already has a liquor license.
“They are an eating establishment under the Thousand Oaks Boulevard Specific Plan,” he said. “The permits are already in place from previous tenants for them to open their doors.”
The restaurant, which has eight locations in Southern California, including in Valencia and Long Beach, is described on its website as a “contemporary, Celtic-themed sports pub staffed with beautiful servers in sexy plaid kilts and matching plaid bras” peeking under a cropped, unbuttoned white shirt.
It’s tagline: “A Cold Beer Never Looked So Good.”
The menu includes a variety of pub fare, including Irish nachos, burgers, salads and wraps.
The chain started in Las Vegas in 2003.
It now has more than 90 restaurants in the United States andCanada, with 20 more in development.
A Thousand Oaks Acorn Facebook post announcing the pub’s arrival in T.O. drew more than 50 comments in less than 24 hours.
Some of the comments were from people excited about the new restaurant coming to town and others from those who did not welcome the chain.
“The Tilted Kilt is a very successful national chain restaurant, and I’m sure they will do well here in Thousand Oaks,” one person wrote.
