The new Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery in Joliet is tentatively scheduled to open Jan. 30, the company announced Thursday.
The Joliet location in Westfield Louis Joliet mall is among 20 restaurants the chain has under construction. A Bolingbrook Tilted Kilt opened in December.
But the outfits worn and the image being marketed have proven troublesome to the Tilted Kilt company in some area towns, whose officials have decided they don’t want the restaurant in their town. Residents of Evanston launched a successful grassroots campaign in 2011 against a proposed location in the town, mainly due to the sexual nature of the business’s marketing strategy.
But with a tagline, “A cold beer never looked so good,” its clear to see that Tilted Kilt corporate marketers have embraced the philosophy of sex sells, so long as its complemented by good food, and drink. According to the company website, “… We’re in the business of lifting spirits one burger, one beer, one guest, one visit, at a time. So, the next time you’re nearby, whether at happy hour, noon or night, stop in and see us. The Tilted Kilt experience is one-of-a-kind and will always leave you in a better mood than when you arrived.”
City and village officials who have welcomed Tilted Kilt are feeling that good mood, anticipating the jobs and taxes the locations bring. Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Klaar has said he loves the chicken wings, and Joliet is looking forward to the 200 jobs Tilted Kilt forecasts for Joliet–120 full-time workers and 80 part-timers, filling a 5,000-square-foot space in the mall that has sat empty for more than 10 years.
Tilted Kilt has 53 restaurants open, with another 25 in development. In the suburbs, the company has nine franchise locations open or in the works, including Chicago Ridge, Elgin, Roselle, Schaumburg, Vernon Hills ,Villa Park and Woodridge, in addition to Bolingbrook and Joliet.
