Sixty percent of sales at the Tilted Kilt restaurant are food, and 40 percent of customers are women and families.

The group was slated to have 85 restaurants in the U.S. and Canada by December, said Sean Cahill, with Tilted Kilt. Dec. 1 was opening day for the Novi location, the first in Michigan, at 44175 W. 12 Mile, Suite F139, west of Novi Road.

“I have big plans for Michigan,” said Cahill. He noted negative press about our region, which he didn’t agree with.

“I still saw Detroit and Michigan as a great market,” said Cahill, who has bought a home in Walled Lake.

The Novi Tilted Kilt will provide some 200 jobs, not counting contractors or distributors. Servers are still being hired, said Cahill, who takes pride in having used local businesses.

“You’re actually benefiting the local market” by doing so, he said.

The Novi restaurant is 8,000 square feet and has 60 TVs that will carry such major sports events as NFL games and boxing on pay per view. Its decor is designed to pay homage to old public houses of America, England, Scotland and Ireland.

There are such traditional pub favorites as fish and chips and shepherd’s pie, but the menu doesn’t end there. You can order pasta or meatloaf entrees, with calamari as an appetizer. There are many salads, burgers, wraps and pizzas.

The menu is six pages, Cahill noted. “There’s literally something for everybody,” he said.

“I just thought it would be a great opportunity for the first location,” he said of Novi, which will be run by General Manager Brian Meussner. There’s Twelve Oaks Mall nearby and I-96, Cahill said. “The demographics are great.”

Hours will be 11 a.m. to midnight Monday-Thursday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

There are 30 beers on tap and many bottled as well. Cahill’s proud of the high end decor, including oak paneling.

“We don’t really have any specific competition,” he said. He cited good food, the sports bar aspect and the beers. “I really feel it’s the best of many worlds.”

He appreciates the warm welcome Tilted Kilt has received: “The city of Novi has been very helpful.”

Cahill’s been in the restaurant field 15 years and with Tilted Kilt for three.

The restaurant can be found on Facebook and Twitter at tiltedkiltnovi. Its national website is tiltedkilt.com. The local phone is (248) 374-4990.

Cahill sums up Tilted Kilt with the phrase “the best looking sports pub you’ve ever seen.”
