The Tilted Kilt in Greeley got some unexpected publicity and some unexpected business Saturday night courtesy of professional mixed martial arts fighter Justin Gaethje.
After his World Series of Fighting 29 win Saturday at Bank of Colorado Arena at the University of Northern Colorado, Gaethje told a national television audience on NBC Sports Network to meet him at the Tilted Kilt, 610 9th Ave.
Savannah Royer, a manager at the restaurant, said Gaethje brought his family with him — about 30 people. But then there were more.
“They pretty much brought almost everybody who was at that fight,” Royer said, laughing.
Gaethje is a former UNC All-American wrestler, and he fights in the World Series of Fighting. After his win Saturday, Gaethje is 16-0 at the 155-pound weight class. The fight was playing at the restaurant, but the volume was down. It wasn’t until later staff heard about Gaethje’s announcement. Although there were only six or seven servers and a couple of bartenders by the time the crowd arrived, Royer said it went well.
“It was a record-breaking sales day for us,” Royer said.
The Tilted Kilt has been in Greeley for nearly two years, and Royer said business has been good.
It’s just never been this good, and they can thank Gaethje for that.
